Astronomy Notes, Information & Links
Got somewhat involved in astronomy as a kid. My older brother
had a telescope, but I never had the money at the time to buy one. In April
of 1986, I went with a group of Astronomers and Photographers to Australia to
view & photograph Halley's Comet. I still had no telescope, but
continued to use my unaided eyes, some binoculars and a camera on tripod and
frequent visits to the Vanderbilt Planetarium and the Hayden planetarium, both
of which I'm a member and enjoy free or discounted rates. Wasn't until 2001 when I purchased my 1st telescope, A Christmas present to
myself. The price was reasonable, and the quality is incredible.

Meade ETX-90EC:
Maksutov-Cassegrain
optical tube assembly (D=90mm, F=1250mm, f/13.8) with EMC super multi-coatings;
internal flip-mirror system for either straight-through or 90 observing
position; fork mount with electric slow-motion controls; setting circles and
locks on both axes; electronic control panel; 4-speed (8x, 32x, 0.75/sec, 5/sec)
dual-axis motor drive system with hand controller; sidereal-rate tracking in
equatorial mode with optional table tripod or deluxe field tripod; internal
battery compartment accepting eight (user-supplied) AA-size batteries; 8 x 21mm
erect-image viewfinder; Series 4000 Super Plssl 26mm eyepiece (1.25").

Some references and notes I've accumulated on sever sheets of scrap paper,
which I can now throw away because I can print this, view it online, or view it
offline in the field.
